Interview with Haichen, Co-founder of Scroll: Focusing on Real-world Applications After Mainnet Launch

As an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian entrepreneurs, Scroll has always been highly anticipated by the community. After two years of intensive development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet on October 17, 2023.

As of October 27, the total locked value on the Scroll chain has exceeded $19.3 million; the number of Mainnet wallet addresses has surpassed 147,000, and the total number of verified transactions has exceeded 860,000. From October 20 to 26, the average daily number of transactions was nearly 80,000, with the highest daily transaction volume being 101,375 on October 22.

Recently, Scroll held the ETH Hong Kong event at Cyberport in Hong Kong, which is the first event organized by the Ethereum community in Hong Kong. During the event, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen gave an exclusive interview, and below is a summary of the interview content.

Exclusive interview with Scroll co-founder Haichen: The launch of the Mainnet is a new beginning, with a greater focus on real-world applications

Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone for Scroll and a new starting point. More features will be introduced next, further enhancing security, reducing user costs, and providing developers with more functionalities to develop innovative applications.

The current development of the Scroll ecosystem is in line with expectations. Over a week since its launch, approximately $15 million has entered the Scroll chain, ranking it 18th in Layer 2 TVL. More developers are deploying contracts, which is a healthy sign.

Scroll chooses a zkRollup solution based on zkEVM because it believes zk can provide better security and user experience for users. EVM equivalence is also important, allowing developers to port tools from Ethereum to Layer 2 without modification.

Technically, Scroll has high compatibility with the Ethereum EVM, supporting the most precompiled contracts. The sorter is based on Go-Ethereum, which can provide users and developers with stronger compatibility.

Regarding ecological development, Scroll is improving its infrastructure, including RPC, indexing, cross-chain bridges, oracles, and more. There will be more DeFi applications deployed in the future. Scroll aims to build an open and neutral platform that does not favor large or small projects but will focus more on real-world applications such as stablecoin payments and AA wallets.

Haichen believes that the competition in the Layer 2 ecosystem has just begun. In the future, it is necessary to make Layer 2 more trustless, improve security, and attract more developers to participate. The Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but a market that can continuously expand.
